Frequently Asked Questions
Why are you doing this?
Most pay-per-ride users are low to medium wage earners. Although fractions of a penny may not sound like much to most, some of these people are likely paying more per ride for their MetroCard than most people. They do not need to get a smaller bonus on top of that.
What if I want more rides than the amount I get?
Refill your card, take it out, and refill it again.
Can people use this to scam the system?
The reward is so small it is very unlikely. People can use anything to "scam the system."
Will I get in trouble for doing this?
You will not get in trouble for refilling your MetroCard.
Why is the MTA giving me extra money?
Because they either already factored in for this or they expect to make it up from the people that will get less than an 5 percent bonus.
But does the MTA not need the money?
If the MTA did not factor in for this, they are a bigger disaster than anyone has imagined.
Is it worth it?
That is up to you to decide.
